Poor customer service and professionalism. Front desk employees are not properly trained

Plante Moran worked with our business for a period of a couple of years. In year one, they did a pretty diligent job and were pretty attentive. Year two seemed to be going similarly until they called us at the last minute prior to the filing deadline and told us that they made errors in a very important filing at the start of the year that resulted in us not paying some taxes on time and incurring penalties and interest.

After everything was said and done, our position is that they cost us about $30,000. They never tried to collect the last bill we owed but have ignored our attempts to be reimbursed by them for their error which costs us a lot more than what we owed them. It's like they figured if they ignored us for long enough it would just go away. I think the way they have handled this is completely unprofessional. It's one thing to mess up.

Everyone does once in a while. But, to not return my calls and not address the substance of what happened shows a lack of organizational character. Accountants are supposed to be professional and strong in character. Their behavior in this circumstance did not reflect either of those traits and certainly is not the kind of business ethics that I want my accountancy firm to have.

If they did this to me, I wonder how many other small business owners they have done this to. I would never use them again and would highly recommend no one else does either. There are plenty of choices out there for quality accountancy firms.
