First and foremost- if there was a negative scale for rating this "business, " they would receive a -5. Keywords that come to mind when reflecting on my brief but horrid experience with Mr. Lannoy would include, but not be limited to: awful, pompous, condescending, confrontational, threatening and gloriously painful. My wife and I were referred by a friend, but have used H&R Block previously with no complaints.
Given that the charge with H&R was a little higher, we decided to take a chance. BIG mistake. We dropped off our documentation before meeting because we were in the process of moving and I work odd hours. On the day we met with Mr. Lannoy, my wife arrived ten minutes earlier than me, so they had just finished reviewing the return when I arrived. There was a difference in our income for the year, but no change in withholding.
We had assumed our return would be close to the last year, but it was 6K less. When he showed me a basic printout of the return, I was a little confused (hell, that's why I have someone else do my taxes!). I responded that I didn't agree, and wanted to look at some specifics. He didn't agree. His retort was: "well, this is a vanilla return and I have a master's degree." (I'm paraphrasing).
He seemed genuinely irritated that we wanted to clarify our calculations. We went back and forth a couple of times until- honest to God, the next words out of his mouth were: "I'm pissed, get the hell out of my office." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I asked him if he was serious. "You are lucky I don't kick you in the ass, " was the next retort from him. Now, to give a little background on me, I am a medical professional and a Captain in the US Army.
I have deployed twice to Iraq and Afghanistan. I am used to being straight forward with people, but respectful. I disagreed with the calculations of this A-hole, and his response to me was a threat. I have no respect for someone like this. Animals have more respect than this. If this is the way he treats his clients, then I feel bad for them and I hope they seek guidance from someone that doesn't have their head up their own butt. Anyway, we left this business and were welcomed with open arms by H&R block, which actually saved us MORE money! LOL. Guess the "Master's degree" didn't give him the powers he thought it did! H&R block 1, A-hole 0.
