Have you just started a new business? Did you know expenses incurred before a business begins operations are not allowed as current deductions? Generally, these start up costs must be amortized over a period of 180 months beginning in the month in which the business begins. However, based on the current tax provisions, you may elect to deduct up to $5,000 of business start-up and $5,000 of organizational costs paid or incurred. The $5,000 deduction is reduced by any start-up or organizational costs which exceed $50,000.

My wife and I were new to the area about two years ago. I have a complicated return every year with multiple states. This is my second year with them as my tax prep agency. I have to say, I was extremely disappointed last year with the level of communication and decided to give them another chance. I completely understand that COVID is a real hindering factor with business.

This year however, we received the same level of service. I'm extremely disappointed. - Customer service was terrible. - Almost no communication outside of email. (If there are major questions or pieces of information that are missing I and many other people expect a phone call or follow up. - Not very willing to explain or go over final tax prep. ( I would expect that most tax firms, especially private ones, would be extremely interested in getting to know their customer base through a one on one explanation and walk through of your tax prep.

I have taken my business to a lot of different places and can honestly say that I have had this experience everywhere else but this place. Maybe I'm out of touch but seems like good practice to me.
